Joy in Cumbernauld as Parish of St Lucy Consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
The parishioners of St Lucy's in Cumbernauld were yesterday treated to a most special occasion as their parish was consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of our Mother, Mary.
Parish Priest Father Joseph McAuley was joined at a packed 11am Mass by Brother Miguel from Lisbon who spoke briefly about the work of his own Order, both in Lisbon and London, and its devotion to Our Lady of Fatima.
Brother Miguel, who spoke briefly before Mass setting the tone for a joyful occasion, told the congregation that, in the days when people tend to use fancy navigation systems to get from A to B, we have to remember that "Mary is our GPS", as he pointed to a stunning and most beautiful statue of Our Lady of Fatima.
He said that Mary shows us the way to Jesus and so we should always have Mary in our sights. Brother Miguel continued, "if we can't see Mary, we are not on the right track."
The faithful queue to venerate Our Lady's statue
Father McAuley then said the prayer of consecration, asking Mary to guide and look after the Parish, in particular its families. The consecration is only a few weeks ahead of Pope Francis consecrating the entire world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, scheduled to take place on 13th October, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Fatima.
After Mass the people of St Lucy's queued to venerate the statue and receive a picture of Our Lady along with a small medal. It was a very special occasion and with so many people in attendance, particularly young families, it provided yet more evidence that the Faith in Scotland is very much alive!
